While researching about ancient weaving techniques, I came across tablet weaving. It's practiced all around the world: In Northern Europe, Turkey, Southeast Asia..

In Turkey tablet weaving was practiced by nomadic Yörük people . As they were moving to different places from season to season, the sturdy tablet woven straps were used for tying the loads to horses and camels. They were also used for tying babies on the back, as belts, for tying the framework of the tents (yurt) etc. Just like any other nomadic group, Yörük people were forced to settle down in villages. As time went by, the use for the straps were no longer needed and the weaving technique is almost forgotten.

I hope to generate some interest to this ancient weaving technique by designing modern accessories.
